With my newly acquired Star Alliance Gold status via a Turkish Airlines status match, I was able to visit the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge at Singapore Changi Airport's Terminal 2. Here's a detailed account of my visit to this newly reopened lounge and how it ranks among the lounges I’ve been to elsewhere.

How I Accessed This Lounge
I recently completed a status match with Turkish Airlines using my American Airlines Platinum Pro (Oneworld Emerald) status. With my Turkish Airlines Elite status, I get access to Star Alliance Gold, which allows me to get access to this particular lounge for me and my girlfriend.
According to the Star Alliance website, access criteria for these lounges is as follows:
  • You present your boarding pass of a Star Alliance member airline operated flight which departs at the same day as your visit or latest by 05:00 AM the next morning
  • If your boarding pass does not carry the Star Alliance Gold indicator, you will need to also show your valid Star Alliance Gold card
  • The lounge displays the Star Alliance Gold logo at the entrance
The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge had the Star Alliance Gold symbol, so I knew this was a lounge I could access with my status. I showed the agent me and my girlfriend’s boarding passes, and they quickly & easily were able to scan + verify my eligibility.
The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge: Not As Fancy As I Expected
So, 2 years ago, I went to the KrisFlyer Silver Lounge with Star Alliance Gold status because the economy Star Alliance Gold lounge (this KrisFlyer Gold lounge) was still closed as a consequence of covid. I forgot that the KrisFlyer Gold lounge had reopened, and I was really excited to revisit the KrisFlyer Silver Lounge... unfortunately, I was greeted with the Gold lounge (why is Silver higher than Gold? unsure).
I would describe the lounge as a big rectangular room, arranged in a very functional way to accommodate as many people as possible in one space. There were no windows and there wasn’t even a bathroom directly inside the lounge; rather, it was the Changi Airport public bathoom.

The Food: Decent Variety And Yummy
The food was laid out on about one and a half sides of the room. There were some random salad ingredients, sushi, and pastries/baked goods in one area alongside a hot buffet section featuring a variety of Asian foods like seafood shumai, shrimp dumplings, fried fish, chicken, and more. Furthermore, in Singapore spirit, there was also a laksa station.

The food spread here was quite impressive—there was a lot to eat, with ample (delicious) proteins and carbs. I always love shumai and dim sum, so that was an immediate +1 for me there. The chicken and fish buffet stations were surprisingly delicious; super juicy and flavorful.
There was also a refrigerator filled with drinks like beers and sodas. I myself enjoyed a glass of Tiger beer (which I discovered cost quite a bit in Singapore).

My Overall Rating Of The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge: Barely Hits 5/10
I rate lounges based on a few general criteria:
  • Food Quality & Variety: 7/10
  • Cleanliness: 8/10
  • Interior Design: 2/10
  • Unique Amenities: 1/10
I would say the food and cleanliness at this lounge were the best parts about it. The food was generally pretty delicious all around, with good variety and flavors, despite it being all buffet style. Cleaning staff also did a fantastic job at clearing the areas rapidly and orderly. However, the space was just a compact box with little to no effort put into the design. Furthermore, there were basically no special amenities about this lounge, except maybe for the fact that they had international outlets?
Conclusion
The KrisFlyer Gold Lounge at Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 is an ok lounge that services KrisFlyer Elite Gold and Star Alliance Gold members departing on a Star Alliance operated flight in Premium Economy or standard Economy. With decent quality food that also happens to be pretty good, it is a good way to get a solid meal in before your flight. Otherwise, keep your expectations low—the lounge is just a big room with no bathroom inside.
