Lounges can be significant money savers for those who frequent airports and buy lots of food or drinks.
There are now several cards that give cardholders access to these lounges.
Chase Sapphire Lounges
The Chase Sapphire lounge and terrace are two exciting new additions to the lounge space. While the AUS terrace isn’t actually a lounge per say, the BOS location is arguably among the top priority pass lounges in the country, offering top tier food and amenities. With its lounge location opening for the first time just this year, Chase has announced plans to open additional lounges in LAS, PHL, SAN, and more.

Considering the rather simple entry requirements, the Centurion Lounges rank among the top lounges available. For an airport, food and drink quality are relatively good, with some Centurion lounges offering a wide selection of hot food and quality cocktails. The sheer number of Centurion lounges is certainly worth noting as well.

Which credit card company’s lounges are the best?
The Centurion lounges have historically been the best, given their fine dining options curated by renowned chefs, premium beverage selections, and additional services like spa facilities and dedicated workspaces. However, because of their popularity, they can sometimes be crowded. Capital One’s lounges are new to the scene, but have made a significant impression with their modern design, diverse food and drink offerings (with to-go!), and thoughtful amenities. The Sapphire club is the newest to the scene, with arguably the best Priority Pass lounge in the market so far, but still only has one true Sapphire lounge available.
Consequently, the Centurion lounges still win out, but the Capital One lounges are quickly following suit. Chase lounges might rank higher in the future once they start expanding their footprint.
Airline Specific Lounges
Some flyers more loyal to an airline or its alliance may be interested in pursuing an airline-specific set of lounges. These credit cards will allow you to gain access to lounges on both departure and arrival when flying on eligible airlines.
American Airlines: Admirals Club
Historically, Admirals Clubs have been rather mediocre, offering small bites and snacks alongside premium food (for a price). Since AA announced lounge changes a few months ago, there has been hope for an improved lounge experience. However, while Admirals clubs have a wide array of amenities (including some very nice showers), their food offerings are still pretty weak across the board. Fliers can access Admirals Clubs on both arrival and departure, which helps strengthen their value proposition.

Eligible fliers can access United Clubs on both arrival and departure, making it an extremely convenient option for those looking to grab a quick bite on both ends of the journey.

Arguably the best lounges among its competitors, Delta Sky Clubs offer an incredible variety of high-quality food and beverages. Some also have very nice amenities, such as showers with top end products and Sky decks that let visitors look into the surrounding area. Similar to the other lounges, Sky Clubs can be visited before departure or after arriving. Interestingly, while Sky Clubs are generally fantastic, they suffer from overcrowding since they’re the only lounge Delta has; Delta does not have a business class specific lounge!

Which airline specific lounges are the best?
From personal experience and feedback from friends, Delta Sky Clubs tend to lead the pack, frequently lauded for their upscale amenities, superior food and beverage options, and the availability of showers and special features like outdoor terraces in select locations. United Clubs follow, especially with recent upgrades that have significantly improved their lounges' ambiance and offerings, aiming to provide a more premium experience. Admirals Clubs round out the ranking, providing a consistent and reliable service, though sometimes considered to lag slightly behind in the extravagance of their complimentary provisions. However, if you value showers or premium foods for sale, Admirals Clubs may rise a bit higher than United Clubs.
Ultimately, the best lounge for an individual traveler will depend on their specific needs, preferences, and travel routes.
Independent Lounge Networks
There are a few major independent lounge networks that can be accessed with a multitude of credit cards. While these lounges are generally easier to access, they can only be accessed on departure.
Priority Pass
Priority Pass is a globally recognized lounge program that offers access to over 1,300 airport lounges across the world, making it one of the largest independent lounge networks. This membershp grants you the flexibility to escape the hustle and bustle of busy airport terminals regardless of your airline or ticket class. The lounges in its network provide a variety of amenities, typically including comfortable seating, complimentary Wi-Fi, snacks and beverages, and often more substantial food and drink options. Some lounges also offer additional facilities like showers and sleeping areas. Membership tiers vary, with some offering unlimited lounge access while others provide a set number of visits. Priority Pass can be obtained as a standalone membership or as a perk through select credit cards.
All the cards we’ve mentioned above provide Priority Pass access, but some cards give different levels of priority pass access than others. There are two levels to be concerned about:
- Core lounge access: Standard lounges
- Other experiences: $28 dining credits at select airport restaurants, spa access, gaming experiences, and more
Of the cards, the CSR offers the strongest Priority Pass lounge access, giving you access to both lounges and other great airport experiences as well.
Plaza Premium Lounges
Plaza Premium Lounges are a network of 130+ lounge spaces found in airports around the world, designed to further provide travelers with a comfortable environment away from the bustling airport crowds. These lounges are generally a tier above the average Priority Pass lounge, with quality food and amenities. Some Plaza Premium lounges also have spa services! The atmosphere in these lounges is typically quiet and refined, with attentive staff on hand to assist guests.
Interestingly, while Priority Pass gives access to some Plaza Premium Lounges, not all Plaza Premium lounges can be accessed through the general Priority Pass card. The following cards give access to all Plaza Premium lounges:
- Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card
- The Platinum Card® from American Express
- The Business Platinum Card® from American Express (access is limited to eligible Card Members)
