Kunming Changshui opened in 2012 to replace the cramped old Wujiaba airport, and it is the busiest airport in southwest China, sitting at around 2,100 meters on the Yunnan plateau.
Right now there are 156 airports in 16 countries connected to Kunming, 105 of them domestic, with 57 airlines flying scheduled passenger traffic.
Kunming's longest nonstop connection is San Francisco de Yeso (SQD), 11,167 miles, offered by Yunnan Hongtu Airline.
It is the gateway to Yunnan's tourist regions (Dali, Lijiang and Shangri-La) and to Southeast Asia across China's southwestern border. Kunming's mild year-round climate earned it the nickname 'Spring City'.
