How Often Does Chase Run This Promotion?
Chase usually runs these 30% bonus offers for Virgin Atlantic transfers once or twice a year. Looking at past trends, here are a few examples:
  • October/November 2023: 30%
  • May/June 2023: 30%
  • October 2022: 30%
Based on these trends, I’d reasonably expect for one more transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic to come up in a few months, likely November 2024.
How To Get Chase Ultimate Rewards Points
We’re a big fan of Chase points and for good reason—this particular instance is just one example where you can get awesome transfer bonuses to get tremendous value out of your hard earned points.

Virgin Atlantic Sweet Spots
Virgin Atlantic is renowned for its value in certain, niche travel routes, especially when using points for premium cabins. While some of these routes are not easily searchable on Roame (Virgin Atlantic doesn’t make some of their best deals available on their website), you can still use Roame as a tool to accelerate your search efficiency and speed.

U.S. <> Europe On Air France/KLM Business Class For Just 38k Chase Points

Bag a seat in business class on Air France or KLM for an unbeatable 48,500 Virgin Atlantic points during the off-peak season, and just 58,500 points at peak times. Thanks to a nifty 30% bonus when transferring points from Chase, these numbers shrink to only 38,000 and 45,000 points respectively. As prices for transatlantic travel continue to climb, this offer is a fantastic way to enjoy a high-end flight to or from Europe without breaking the bank.

Virgin uses a zone based system to determine its Air France/KLM partner award pricing:

West Coast U.S. <> Europe In Air France/KLM Economy Class

Flying from the West Coast (what Virgin calls Zone 7) can also present several incredible opportunities for deals. Flights to Europe start at just 15,000 points plus taxes each way (or 12,000 points with the Chase bonus.

Virgin employs a zone-based system for setting its award pricing on Air France/KLM tickets. Consequently, you'll find these attractive prices for flights to and from Zone 1 and Zone 7 (explained below):

  • Zone 1: UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Denmark, Balearic Islands, Finland, Italy, Malta, Norway and Sweden.

U.S. <> Auckland On Air New Zealand Business Class

Jetting off to Auckland in a lie flat business class seat across the Pacific sounds like a dream come true. Thanks to the partnership between Air New Zealand and Virgin Atlantic, there are some incredible opportunities for award travel here as well: you can travel one-way for just 62,500 Virgin miles plus minimal fees. Yet, these redemptions are as rare as finding a unicorn because they're so scarce.

With Chase's ongoing transfer bonus, that flight becomes just 49k points—a unicorn of the unicorns (a dodo?).

Note: Finding Air New Zealand awards on Virgin’s website might be tricky. However, you can check with partners to find availability using Roame. A quick search shows an Air New Zealand flight available for 75k Aeroplan points. To grab this elusive award with Virgin miles, you need to:

  1. Give Virgin Atlantic a call at 1 (800) 862-8621
  2. Confirm the award availability with the agent and request the award booking to be held for 24-48 hours (this may not be possible)
  3. Transfer your points to Virgin Atlantic
  4. Call Virgin Atlantic again at 1 (800) 862-8621 to pay for your booking
  5. Note the Air New Zealand record locator
Is This A Good Deal?
When considering the 30% bonus transfer, Virgin Atlantic's top-tier redemptions become even more valuable. For example, a flight to New Zealand that would typically cost 62,500 Virgin Points can now be booked for just 49,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points with the bonus. Additionally, being able to fly in ANA’s business class across the pacific starting at just 35,000 Chase points is an incredible deal.
However, it’s definitely worth noting that finding some of these deals can be very difficult. ANA business/first class bookings through Virgin Atlantic are considered “unicorns,” meaning it is a rarity to find them for the exact dates/times you want. In both cases, doing close in bookings is typically the easiest way to find these deals.
Conclusion
This 30% transfer bonus from Chase to Virgin Atlantic presents an excellent opportunity to leverage your Ultimate Rewards points for more high value travel. If you have a specific use case in mind, this can be an excellent way to use and maximize the value of your points all around.
