Alaska recently devalued & revamped its frequent flyer program. However, out of the ashes came a new featured benefit: quarterly award sales called "Global Getaways."

This article will feature Alaska's quarterly Global Getaways and our take on whether or not these are good use cases for your points and miles.

What Is Alaska's Global Getaways?

Global Getaways is a new offering by Alaska Airlines giving users up to 50% off award travel redemptions. While this sounds interesting in theory, it's definitely going to be dependent on the exact destinations and offerings Alaska has at the time.

Here are the keys terms & conditions of the offer:

  • Promo is valid on bookings April 3, 2024–April 30, 2024 for travel on September 1, 2024–November 30, 2024.
  • Global escapes pricing is offered on flights in Economy & Premium Economy class only
  • Travel has to originate in the US
  • Each award is subject to taxes and carrier-imposed fees starting from $5.60 per person, each way
  • For itineraries that include one (1) or more partner award segments, a $12.50 (USD) nonrefundable fee will be collected per person, each way
  • One (1) enroute stopover of up to 14 days is allowed per one-way on eligible international itineraries
  • On a roundtrip international itinerary two (2) stopovers are permitted with one (1) in each direction of travel

Is This A Good Deal?

Whether or not this will be a good deal will definitely depend on your individual travel plans. I think broadly, this is a good way to get ~1.5 cents on your point.

For this New York to Bali trip, award pricing is just 60k roundtrip in economy. Fungibility wise, I'd probably book the China Airlines flight if I was looking to save some cash. This redemption would easily come out to ~2 CPP+, which is certainly not a bad score by any means.

For premium economy, this redemption becomes pretty valuable as well. For San Francisco <> Tahiti, in the summer, you could easily net more than 3 CPP for this flight.

Conclusion

The new Alaska Airlines award sale has some interesting redemption opportunities. Some of these may prove to be highly valuable, presenting themselves as easy ways to get 1.5-2 CPP+ on your Alaska miles. I'm excited to see where they take this in the future, as this is just the beginning of what type of award sales we could see.
